RobertLouisStevenson（羅伯特．路易斯．史蒂文森）wasborninScotlandin1850.Hewasoftensickasachildandspentmanydaysreadingathomebecausehecouldn’tattendclassesatschool.Stevensonwenttouniversityatseventeenandhestudiedengineeringandthenlaw.Hedidn’tfinishhisstudiesandstartedtravellingandwriting.Hebecameafull-timewriterandauthorin1876,andmarriedFannyOsbournein1880.
StevensonhadhealthproblemsandheandFannytravelledabroadlookingforaclimatethatwasgoodforhim.Stevensonusedhistravelexperiencesinhisbooks.HetravelledwidelytoEngland,France,Switzerland,theUnitedStatesandtheSouthPacific.Heeventravelledonaschooneryachtforsixyears,visitingTahiti,Hawaii,AustraliaandSamoa.
Whenhewasforty,hedecidedtostoptravellingandhebuiltahomeinSamoa.HespenttherestofhislifeinSamoa.Hewasverypopularwiththelocalpeople,andhelpedthemwiththeirrightsandquicklyin1894andwasburiedontheisland.
